Default EJs - Your Ideal Sound System

Esteemed EJs -

If money were no object, and following the few guidelines below, what would your ideal sound system look like for an s2k?

- Head unit is an Alpine CDA-9857 with iPod cable and will add XM tuner.
- No major mods (okay to put amps in the spare tire area, sub(s) in the tool kit area or side areas but leaving the trunk usable, mods to the doors okay for speakers)
- Goal is to have loud volume without distortion for great top-down sound
- Note that the '07s have weight sensors (for the airbags) built into the seats, so putting stuff under the seats might not work anymore.

I just lost my beloved '02 and just got my hands on a new '07, so am starting from scratch. I'm ready to do it right.

Thanks!

Pretty easy....

Focal Utopias in doors.
Tru Amps
Eclipse Ti sub.
Alpine F1 hu.

However, the above setup in an s2000 is overkill, as you will never hear the benefits.

Mine suits me fine...

DVA-9861 w/Sirius add-on
Diamond D971s components
Diamond 12" MacDaddy sub - same as D6 series.
Alpine PDX4.150
Alpine PDX1.600
RF EPX2 Symmetry

The components needed a lot of trimming to the doors, but worth it IMO. I can run full volume on both the Symmetry and deck with zero distortion. It may be overkill to some, but you can hear the difference.

wat i already have:

kenwood hu (love it! wouldn't change it except for alpine)
kenwood 5" door speakers (i like them cuz they have tweeters built in)
california profile 400w amp (never heard of it until i got my car and it was already in it)
wat i would like to do:
put either 4 boston acoustics or memphis audio tweets (2 in '03+ mounting position in doors and 2 in the "secret compartment" lid
another kenwood 5" in secret compartment lid, and 2 in headrests
2 fosgate punch z 10"s pushed by 600w fosgate amp (one mounted on either side of my trunk and amp on wall left of spare tire area so the amp's visible)

i would LOVE that and i really want to do some video/screens/etc but don't have the money.

Im running an Alpine CDA-9883 with an Alpine PDX-4.100, front two channels are going to a set of Infinity Kappa Perfect 6,5 components. Rear two channels will be bridged to a stealthbox which is on its way. So far it sounds very good without the sub. I decided to go this route because its very discrete and lightweight.

But I have to admit, the new one is nice. Nice to have ZERO dings, ZERO squeaks and rattles ... and a clean slate.

I think my next plate is going to be "DEJA S2K" ... WCKD just sounds too much like wrecked now ...

especially when you get to "cost is no object land" you have to go listen to different speakers, because different manufacturers will have different sound signatures. you don't want to spend $1k plus on speakers that are "the best" only to find out you don't care for the way they present highs (too bright / not bright enough for example).

Agreed. I had Kenwood Exceleon speakers prevoiusly and, although a lot of people really like them, they were too bright for me. Listening is definitely going to be a priority.

I'm also wrestling with the new roll-hoop speakers in the '07; trying to decide whether to even keep them in the new system or just bypass them altogether. I'd rather have a full sound from the front that I can crank up. In my previous setup, I couldn't turn my Alpine head unit past 15 without some major distortion; but I originally started using the stock HU so I didn't have good cabling -- which I think probably contributed to the distortion problem.

i'm still using the factory rollhoop speakers with my a/d/s components up front, powered off my Alpine HU's rear channels (the components are powered off the front channels of a 4-channel amp, with the rear two channels bridged to my sub). i adjusted the fader to bring them down to the point where they provide a little fullness to the sound, but don't really call attention to themselves. you can just tinker with the fader to find the spot you like best, which could well be fading completely to the front. but might as well try them out.

there are a couple threads here discussing possible upgrade options for the rollhoop speakers, but thus far, nobody has actually installed a workable solution yet.
