Default Excellent sounding compromise for rears

Couple years ago when Lucid was first starting the rear speaker craze I drilled my panels and dropped in a pair of 4" Coustic speakers. Ya, it sounded better, but in the long run the speakers turned out to be crap. With the install of XM and music I really wanted to HEAR on my 40 min. one way commute each day I knew the 4" wouldn't cut it. So I checked out Lucid's site and find we're now dumping 5 1/4" speakers back there! GREAT, but that wouldn't really help get the highs from being buried in the back of the seat.

So then I find the S-pods. Great idea! Looks good and functional but dang, that's a decent amount of $$ just to hear the radio better. So, it occurs to me that I could do 5 1/4" component speakers, drop the mids in the panel and mount the tweeters up the back panel a bit just under the seat hoop. I gave it a shot and it's awesome! I got the Kenwood Excelon XR-51's off ebay. A little more cutting on the panel and I'm all set. I velcro'd the tweet in place and set it up so the passenger tweeter favors my half of the car for better "imaging". The entire "image" is now moved back so that is sounds like I'm sitting directly to it's left.

I've always been under the impression that car audio can have little if anything to do with fidelity and is always a compromise. I've got well into 5 digits sunk into my 2 channel gear AT HOME but can't see the point in a car. Especially one without a top that spends 90% of it's life on the freeway.

Thought I'd share.

Let me know if there are issues or questions! Pardon the dust on the car. Lot's of road destruction around us...

Oh, now I see what you meant. You just stuck the tweeters higher up. I though you mounted the woofers in the hoop or something.

That is construction dust? Dayum.
