is there a battery in the ez pass or something?? last night i put the ezpass inside the first cubby in the secret compartment (velcro facing up) and went thru the gwb.. didnt work.

then i tried the tappan zee early this morning and again no dice..

on my way to work today i tried paying the tolls off the NJ tpke, and again, no dice..

would my V1 thats custom mounted ontop of the compartment be blocking the waves or something? the V1 is on a radio shack radar detector mount.. its elevated about 2" above the top cover..

hmmmmmmmmmmm

You can do an experiment - just hold the tag up in your hand as you drive through. Don't hold it against the windshield, but just hold up so there is nothing in between the tag and the Ezpass Toll Reader (square plate which is located at the roof of the booths). If the top is up, holding the tag up agains the rag top worked too.

So far, I have never had a problem with the tag placed inside the center compartment. Even worked at 45mph EZpass Gate at the very beginning of PA TP.

I have the license plate one also on my S2k and no problems. Oh and by the way...the guy who is using his EZ Pass on two seperate cars...it's my understanding that you can not transfer EZ PASS transponders between cars.

nope my plate mounted e-z pass has never worked in mass (well i think it worked once) called and asked for another one (plate mounted one) and the darn thing still doesn't work called and asked for a windshield one hopefully that will work..

as a side note i use the NJ e-z pass because in Ma they wanted $25.00 for the transponder ~ in NJ the transponder is free.. That was all well and good until MA decided that out of state drivers should pay more on our roads this should be unlawful...

I have mine in the secret compartment. I went through a toll on the GSP and the guy yelled at me and said I would get a ticket. It was a cash lane with a little ezpass sign. I just cruised though @ 10MPH. Every other ezpass only lanes worked, go figure.

On a side note, NY ezpass will not carge per month, NJ will start charging a buck a month and PA will charge more.

Is this really true ? I figured you can use your EZ Pass on ANY car. If I rented a car, I couldn't use my EZ Pass with it ?

As long as the cars are the same class, it should be ok. I used mine in a rental car and well, the thing didn't register and I got the picture of the car in the mail. I had to mail it back with a 34 cent stamp for a 35 cent toll with my account number. No fine, but I had to pay for a stamp.
