Default Factory HU changer ready?

I bought an interface adapter from circuit-city this weekend for about $145. the salesperson says that it plugs into the cd changer port and runs the ipod as if it were a changer. supposed to charge it as well. the box listed 2000-2005 s2000 on it.

anyway, ripped out the HU and the console to run the wire to the glove box only to find out that

1) there is no extra port to plug anything into.
2) the plugs that are there don't match the plug supplied.

is the factory HU changer ready? i was under the impression that it was both xm and changer ready. do you have to change anything to install a changer or xm?

plase help

the harness plug for the 04/05 cd changer is located just above the gas tank to the left of your spare tire

check out page 7

don't worry, i probably woulda done the same thing as you did if i hadn't seen this. btw, did you get the dension ice link? i think it's $199 at best buy; if you got the same thing from circuit city for $50 less, i'm gonna see if best buy will price match (have a few gift certs to use up).

...unless you want to have your factory XM, just unplug whichever harness you need to. I did it, and everything works like

WAIT!!!

I just read #2 on your list. Am I to understand that even if you unplug something, the plug won't fit? That happened to me.

Here's what I did. Soundgate Product

It will not charge or allow control of your I-Pod. It is for any type of auxiliary source. It looks like the price went up by $2.00 since I ordered about a week ago.

...if Blitzsafe made the one you bought, I'd stay away from them. That brand worked in my Acura, but not in the S (even though the plug fit perfectly).

Damn! That's all I wanted but I didn't know it existed. I already ordered the DCI to use on the Alpine I'm pulling out of my Integra!!! Now I'll probably end up with a 1,400 watt system like in the Teg!!!

That device deserves a sticky.

hold that sticky!!

i pulled out the trunk lining after work and found the cd changer cable and the damn thing still has the wrong plug.

i also see that the changer kit comes with a bus cable. does that cable have diferent plugs at the two ends?

i'm getting to the point that i'm going to order the damn deck, dash interface, and ipod interface box just to know it's all going to jive.

i wanted the install to be invisible.

oh yeah, it's not the dension but the metra/axxess. maybe i'll get the dension unit. best buy is here in hawaii yet, i'll have to order it.

my local installer says that the s2000 has been pulled from some compatibility lists due to different connectors.

Do you really care about the ipod interface? I got an Alpine deck(9827) with built in MP3 player, XM ready, and an auxilary input cable(RCA jacks) for under $200 together.

You can get the cable from Crutchfield/ebay for around $15 and it works with ALL mp3 players(like my Iriver). Controlling the mp3 tracks through the deck might be cool but, it only works with ipods and the interface is way overpriced!

yeah, i really do care about the synchronicity of it all. i know it sounds like overkill but when an install isn't seamless/invisible is gets old really fast. then i tend not to use it, then it becomes a waste of money.

when compromises are made to gain some other functionality my attention always seems to focus on the compromises instead of the new additions.

it's just the way it is with me.

But, have you even tried the Alpine Ipod interface? It might suck... And you might actually want a better MP3 player someday that supports more audio formats, has longer battery life, and weighs less...
