Default Finally ordered my speakers

After a ton of research, many recommendations from Neutral and Philbert, I ordered my speakers.

Diamond Hex Audio S600S, $199 shipped brand new from a seller with 100% feedback on Amazon.

I have read great things about their sound, and the fact that they don't need spacers made them the perfect choice for me. Since I have MY02, I am going to use the tweet mounts in the door.

I am going to install everything very similar to what Dukegrad (eric) did, try to do the crossovers in the extra door area, only I am going to *try* to put the amp behind the passenger seat.

I have a JBL GTO752 amp that does 75x2 rms. It is a little big but it will do until I can replace it with a Sundown or Arc that is smaller. I got it brand new for $77 so it will do.

I already have my headunit in, but I am going to try to do a little manuevering to get it to sit a little deeper. Unfortunately (well actually, fortunately) I leave tomorrow for Europe for a week. So when I get back, I will be installing my new clutch (Spec Stage 1), new brake pads (Hawk HPS), springs (Espilir ASDs), then pull the interior to run all the wiring for the amp.

I am going to use a heavier guage wire than the amp probably needs so I know it won't struggle and when I upgrade I don't have to run new wire. I will update this thread when I start the gutting process.

sound deaden the doors, outside skin and inside, this will reduce road noise, and make your speakers sound better

That is definately on the agenda, I am just waiting to find a good DIY write up because I have never used Dynomat and I don't want to waste any or over/under do it.

not a big deal - cover it all, just dont cover holes you need to hold panel on, cover the inside of the outer skin (at least 1 foot around/behind speaker) and remove the plastic liner and cover everything it did.

diamond audio makes good stuff and that sounds like a good deal as well.

just did an amp/component install on my friends s2k this past saturday. took about 6hrs but the car sounds incredible. we went with pioneer 720prs components and an old mtx amp he already had

for the sound deadener, look into second skin products, they are better than dynamat and less expensive for the most part.

ive heard good things about the sundown amps, but have personally used arc. i had a xxk 2100 and xxk 1500 in a previous car. they are GREAT amps.

Crackerballer, glad to hear you've finally taken the plunge. Best of luck!!! And let me know how the 'mat goes. I haven't gotten to it yet.

Get some wire lube for the larger amp wire... you'll thank me later. I ran #4 dry - don't do it! I would not hesitate to lube up. Bought it for the new #14 wire I fished through the doors for speakers... like butta'.

### not highjacking the thread here, just sharing ###

BTW, I did make my vertical amp shelf, carpeted it, and got it all ready to mount - until I discovered my &^%$# passenger window died (no, it wasn't the master override just bad timing I think/hope)

Here's a pic of the amp shelf (sorry for the sh*t photo - digital cam died last week. what is it with me and technology??!!):

Not bad for about $5 (and waaaaaay too much time). Measure thrice, cut once... the brackets are just custom hack-sawed aluminum strips that still need paint... I used black marine carpet from Lowes - not the same as S2K gray but when it's only as big as the black amp I didn't much care. Haven't mounted it yet since I'm looking for something to stick into the existing holes for the nylon upholestry pins. What a PITA - it shouldn't be that hard to find an anchor that will fit! Let me know if you find something that works.

This is all just in case you decide you can't go behind the seat, or in case you need a shelf. Sorry for the long-winded comment. I'll update my original post on this once it's done. Good luck!!!

Did you check to see if the passenger window lockout switch on the driver door was off? Many MANY a EJ has been humbled by this innocently appareled switch...

Running the 4ga for the amp shouldn't be too hard to do dry (I've done a few S2000 installs - including 1/0 through the firewall). Definitely agree on using lube to get the wire through the door grommets. Ever had your girl beg you for lube? Trust me, it's for the same reason (b/c you're going to get ****ed either way - it just doesn't hurt as much with lube )

When you alternate pushing the window switch up/down, do you hear the window motor (need the car off for this)?
