Default Focal

I have heard from my friend today that Focal makes this kind of speaker called "kevlar" and it's susposed to be absolutly amazing. Apparently they make a component with a tweeter and driver. And you are actuallly not susposed to have the tweeters pointed AT you because they will be to overpowering. I was thinking about doing this with my tax return!! I AM GETTING ONE. Anyone want to comment?
Thanks for all of your help!

next step after this .
LCD BABY! hehe

do a search for "focal" and "polykevlar" or just "focal" and you will get a lot of information. these speakers are very popular on this board. i have a set and they are good speakers. but i have the separates and don't think the tweeters are over-powering.

the website is http://www.focal-jmlab.fr/gb/sommaire.htm

Holman has these...says the tweets can get harsh at times so going on long roadtrips can really be a hellride...but they're still pointed at him

Not sure about the Polykevlars but the crossovers that come with the Utopia line Focals definitely have provision for controlling the output of the tweeter.

yes, they are fantastic speakers, even if a bit pricey... i don't find the tweeters to be overly bright, but then i have mine set at -2db (on the crossover) and have the tweeters mounted fairly low. i would recommend NOT mounting them very high, as they do have a lot of potential to be very bright... as a side benefit though, their off axis listening characteristics are incredible and they voice very well w/ a very close to neutral sound (slightly mid bassy and a little bright - but i'm nitpicking now...)

I have a set of the 165k2's in my car.. and they're fantastic... I have mine actually mounted on the side pillars... so they're not overpowering at all(compared to my quarts).. but at the same time, I'm sure you have to have a pretty good amp to power them.. ( PPI 4100)..

well, the tweets hit really high. that's what i meant. i'm still using the stock deck has my head unit and have my treble settings at between -6 and -4. you just have to turn the treble down a bit. i think that goes for any component system? but other than that, focals sound very good.... imo, of course!

i installed the focal utopia 165w last month and i couldn't be happier. At first i was having doubts about them (price mainly), so i went through all the local audio shops for comparison. At the end i found this shop w/ the focal in their Porsche show car...%*@#$#%... then i fell in love w/ it.
For some reason the Focal in the S sounded a lot better than their Porsche(softtop vs hardtop)

the tweet does hit pretty, but im sure u will be used to it after sometime, hehe
i have my tweeter set at -4db, treble at -2 so i can have my music LOUD
they are great speakers, except im going to be deaf soon
