I had the same question. I think the 165K's are the older model. They don't handle as much peak power and have a lower nominal power rating than the 165K2's.

 

Ok, ok, I should have done a little more research. TepEvan, you were right - the K2's handle more power. Also looks like the v.coil (voice coil, right?) is larger and the magnet is bigger on the K2's.

Yes, and I believe the mounting depth is deeper for the 165k2's, but I know there is at least one person on s2ki that has them installed. I think you need 3/4" spacers to get enough clearance between the magnet and the window. Focal sent me a document on the 165k2's (even though I asked about the 165k's). It doesn't make as much sense as it should though Check ebay, a lot of times they have good information about the product... when all else fails, ask a quality installer. But make sure you have all the info first to see if they're bs'ing you. "suuuure we can put there two 15" subs in your door panels and run them off the stock head unit"

 

for those of you that have heard both, are the 165K2 better over the 165k? if so, is it a marginal improvement? or pretty significant?
