Focal K2P 165 Upgraded versus Utopia 180w
Few questions to experts.
I have an option of buying component speakers set.
1. Focal 165 K2P Upgraded (6.5 inch midbass)
2. Focal Utopia 180w (7 inch midbass)
Utopias definitely will have more wider range (45Hz-22Khz vs. 70Hz-22KHz in K2P)
the other specs pretty much the same.
Few questions.
1. Does it make sense, to buy Utopias and use just them through amp without any sub? Or is it better to have 165 K2P + amp + 8 inch Sub under seat (that was my original idea)?
2. If I would buy Utopia set, do I need to extended/adapter because their 7inch size?
Also, my thoughts was about Utopias that they probably need more space inside the door just because their have wider sound range, is that true?
I really like the Utopias (because they are Hi-End, full range, high quality), but I need to be sure if this is a right choise for S2000. I know that K2P is hi-end and a lot of S2K owners has them and like them.
Please advice, what you think.
Also, it didn't found the seat depth of Utopias, that info will be hepful as well.

k2p is also overkill from some perspectives..
they were just right for me.
i say def just get the k2p's. i very much doubt you would wish you had gone utopia seeing as you do not appear to be a full out 'phile.
they are not as big as the 7" utopia's but they are still going to require a nice 3/4" mdf mounting baffle because of the depth. there are threads around about this so go on n search.. the stock basket that holds the stock speakers will have to be removed.
the sound range (freq.) specs are nice to have but they are not going to be 100% accurate for what you will be able to produce and hear in your setup. so don't overthink the freq. response specs its a waste of time. they both produce solid low ends for a speaker of this size. of course these will not produce subwoofer quality low bass so if you need that you will need a sub.
i run a 10" sub in the trunk so i high pass my front stage at 80hz and this keeps the comps running cleaner since they aren't trying to produce 20-80hz noises.
you will need to have ample airspace inside your doors to run either of these sets nicely as they are infinite baffle setups. don't choke them with something like a small foam xtc baffle. if you want to have the foam there for water protection you can cut out the bottom sides of the foam to allow the air to flow freely.
make sure you are going to be running a very capable amp if you go with these focal's though as they are really power hungry. i've got mine running on the 1 and 2 channels on my alpine pdx 4.150 so they have a clean 150w per channel feeding them. i'm running a 10" jl audio w3v3 sub off of the other two amp channels bridged but i think the focals could use the whole amp if i went active and sound even cleaner.
of course you must know about gain settings and clipping and be smart at all times with your hu volume knob with $1200 components.
so that should help a bit but as we don't know about the rest of the system plans its hard to know how the comps fit in to the overall picture.
neither k2p nor utopia is something you can just slap in the doors and run off stock hu power ya know. at least not optimally.

Thanks, good response. I read a lot of articles last night and decided to go with K2P.
Amp will be Audison LRx 4.1K if new, or I'll buy used from a friend of mine "Rockford Fosgate power 650 Mosfet". Both produce excellent power and quality as far as I know.
Well, I guess now I need to find out how to install K2Ps properly with spacers, buffles, and etc.
Any link references and guides are welcomed

I know what you are talking about, but that Rockford is not that regular Rockford as we see right now. It was a like special edition the 300 and 650 power mosfets amps. I heard it, it sounds incredible!
I will go with Audison probably just because I like it more and it is new, warranty and stuff like that. Anyway, they are both great amps.
Guys, more link about spacers, brackets and sound deadening!
