Default Footwell Subwoofer

Many of you guys have asked about my sub setup (passenger footwell). Some have even come to meets just to see it, only to be disapointed by the fact that you *can't* see anything. Everyone asked for pictures, and, well, at long last I've finally got one.

Sorry this took so long. Here's a picture of the 10" AlumiPro sub in the passenger footwell. A custom made steel grate goes over what you see, and the carpeting goes back on over the grate. The floor mat goes in over the carpeting as usual.

Want one for yourself? These are the guys that did it: www.gregsound.com. The owner's name is Greg, tell him Mike sent you and he'll take good care of you. They've done a few of these installs now, so they know the car.

Pretty cool! Can you give us an idea of cost? I know the AlumaPro drivers are fairly pricey...

Any more hints for those of us out of driving distance from your installer?

Thanks,

Ted

Doesn't have to be an AlumiPro. I went with all high end components for my system. (The DynAudio separates cost me $800! )

The install itself should cost between $250 and $350 as it takes about 6 hours (and they already know exatly what they're doing, if the discovery work has to be done again it would take longer).

I'm sure Greg will be happy to offer instructions on the install. I'd give them to you myself, but I'm not exatcly sure how they did it.

Although he's a good guy and would never ask for $ for a phone call, it would be appropriate (IMO) to offer to purchase ($50?) install instructions from him as he did not charge me for the hours they spent figuring out how to do the install on the idea that they spread that cost over any other s2000 they do. By getting thier expertise it'll save another installer a few hours of work.

About all I know is that there's an existing air space between the floor and the fire wall that the sub sits in. An 8" sub has no effect on leg room, and a 10" causes you to lose about 1" of leg room.

Awesome, and right down the street from me! If I ever need my sub moved from my trunk to create room, I'll remember to look them up.

Do you happen to know if the driver is in a box, or is it a "free air" driver? I am also assuming they utilized some sort of fiber glass or carbon. Very impressive ... I'm toying with the same idea, but never considered that area ... I was just going to build a very small enclosure.
Very nice - I like

I believe it is mounted in a small, but form fitting box. Honestly, I'm not really sure what's back there. All I know is I like the tunderous bass and my girlfriend likes the foot massage

I went with a small enclosure (self contained) clarion sub in my MR2 Spyder. The setup in the s2k is far superior sound wise and space wise though.

I don't know if this has been asked before. Do you loose any any leg room? Thanks.

I was just going to ask that question! how many INCHES of legroom do we loose! I know it would suck if I were to stick a 6 footer in my car such as ME and loose 4-5 inches when its already cramped!

I discounted this though of making a foot well speaker for just such a reason.

As for sound........if done right it will sound AMAZING! Just be sure the speaker doesn't have a lot of mechanical noise like most kickers do.

Hi,

WOW!! Very impressive! I love the setup, and the equipment!
Nice choice on speakers and a sub!!

I have a similar setup. I have a 12" Alumapro in the trunk and the dynaudios in a pod almost exactly like yours!
