Took your advice and called Greg - nice guy and very informative ... he mentioned one item that will stop me from pursuing ... you have to cut metal in order to make this work . Knew it was too good to be true, but I still like it and the install looks great.

I've talked with 2 shops who have suggested installing Focal Utopia 5 3/8" woofers in the space above the passenger's foot area. They would wrap the stuff underneath the dash with aluminum foil and then mold a fiberglass enclosure from that space. A box would be made and there would be no loss of foot space and no metal cutting. Not sure that I want to be the first guinea pig to test this out, anyone else want to give this a shot?

Actually I am already doing this. The technique they are advertising is the same one I used to make the subs in my trunk. I am only going through the hell a second time to improve the mid-bass response with 8's in the front. Andrew, if you want I show you how to do it.

I am perplexed on exactly how I am going to fit a sub into the driver's side of the cabin. I've been under there measuring countless times to no avail. That is the sole reason why I haven't proceeded further with the project. I may install 6.5" drivers and add a second set of Boston Acoustic 3-ways, but that is just talk so far. I still feel very strongly about adding 8"s to offset the dual-voice coils 10"s in my trunkwell.

I have plenty of power for everything, its just finding places to put the extra speakers.

So it sounds like there is space between the sheetmetal of the passenger footwell and the actual firewall? And then they cut a hole in the footwell and jammed the sub in and sealed up the compartment with fibreglass? How much metal was required to be cut and can it be returned to stock without anyone actually noticing?

Sure, take the sub out, lay the capet back, and it's like stock again. The metal grate takes the place of the footwell that you cut away. Only way to tell would be to lift the carpet out.
