Default fuse keeps blowing...

Hey guys! I'm not too great with car audio. As long as the wires are connected to and from the car and Headunit, I can do the rest with the sub and amp - which is very simple... Anyways, I had installed my OLD kenwood 600w amp with my OLD JL 12w0 sub and it worked fine for about a month. Now the fuse in the engine bay keeps blowing!!! The first time it blew, I thought nothing of it and put another fuse on and it blew within seconds, and the same happened to every other fuse thereafter. The fuse is a 40 amp btw...

I have tried reinstalling the amp due to my thinking that maybe a loose wire was the problem, but I was wrong, it just keeps blowing.

The sub and amp is from my old car, and the S2000 I purchased had the wiring already to connect a sub and amp.

Could it be that the fuse is too weak to power my sub? If so, then why did it work fine for a month or so?

Any help is appreciated!

More than likely something has grounded. You will need to check ALL of your wiring. Not just the amp wiring.

Sounds like the power wire is grounding out somewhere. What gauge is it? Also follow it from front to back and check every inch of it to make sure the insulation isnt split somehwere. Most likely by the fuse, firewall, or at the amp.

Is the fuse that is blowing the one that you installed inline with the power wire or is it in the factory fuse box? If it is just the one you installed, sounds like it is either too small or grounding out somewhere. I had assumed in my earlier post that you meant the factory fuse box. How did you go through the firewall? Maybe it is cut there and grounding...

Take an ohmeter and check continuity for a short from the power cable to ground (- terminal on battery).

The fuse is a 40 gauge and its the one that is installed inline w/ power wire. I didn't install the wires, they were on the car when I purchased it, and I don't know how it goes through exactly...

I'll try with the ohmeter first.

Thanks guys.
