Default good components for no amp?

I happened to be at an audio store the other day and happened to ask about which components to use without an amp, and they said they dont recommend running components on the HU alone, and tried to talk me into getting an amp, but i think they were just trying to get me to spend more money. any recommendations for low power components? im not good at figuring out amps and watts, especially since most of whats listed on the box seems to be an exaggeration.

I was thinking the same, just getting components powered by my Alpine HU. How are the Infinity Reference 6010CS?

i got the alpine components powered by 9856 hu with no amp.
in a way i'd say the salesman was right.
like my components with the hu is fine the way it is, but when i really want to blast some music, at high volumes the sound gets distorted.
that's when an amp would be handy.

I can bump mine to max (35) on my 9885, and they are crystal clear, and making my ears bleed.

I have the same setup and can go up to 23 before it starts to get distorted. Have you done any tuning to the HU (ie. adjust frequency cut off's or loudmess, or other settings?) I am curious as to what you have done, I would love to get mine up that high...
