WTF is the difference between the db6500 and the db6501? I'm considering the $50 off on Crutchfield....

The 6501's have an adjustable crossover similar to the momo series. The treble can be adjusted either -3db, 0, or +3db on the tweeters. That is the difference that I know of between the set.

I have the 6500's in my car with the stock HU. I love them. I just had an issue with a bad crossover. I bought mine off EBay for $100 last year and Polk replaced the crossover no questions asked. The great thing about the dB series is they are extremely efficient(less power needed to play loud) so they are louder than the stock speakers and definitely more crisp. I can't imagine the adjustable crossover on the 6501 would be of benefit since the 6500's are quite bright on their own.

According to the specs, the 6501's go 5hz lower on sensitivity and mount depth is down to 1-11/16" from 2"

Where did you get the mounting info? On the www.polkaudio.com web site it says 35hz low end frequency response - as you said(vs 40hz on the 6500's), but the mouting specs are identical: 2" depth top mount for woofer and 1 1/8" for tweeter.
