Default GPS Mount

So, I was getting tired of the suction cup mount falling off and finally decided to make a permanent solution. The biggest hurdle was that the mount didn't have an integrated plug, so I had to come up with a way for the unit to plug itself in when it snapped it into position. I just cut off the suction cup part of the mount, and made the rest out of 1/8"x2" aluminum bar stock and painted it semigloss black. Total cost... $5 for the aluminum, and $5 for paint.

I used the lower screw that mounts the air vent in the a-pillar, but its also just thick enough to get compressed between the plastic trim and metal. It's very sturdy, doesn't rattle, and only has minimal movement if I'm going over a rough road. works perfectly!

WOW, that was a really good idea! I just quit using my GPS and started using my Android, mounted on a Modifry mount.

Brilliant. I will be going the Modifry dash mount route, but maybe DIY fever will hit before then and I'll give your solution a go. nice work! I'd just be concerned about how well it'll hold up on some really spirited twisty driving? How heavy is that GPS unit? I'd probably use my DROID X for GPS, and it weighs ~155 grams, I think.
