JL Audio TW-5 Subwoofer help
Hello there, I've been thinking about adding a subwoofer to my S2000 and I want to put something in spare tire, like the RSX-S subwoofer. Has anyone modified and RSX sub box for a bigger subwoofer? I was thinking of trying to modify one to hold the shallow mount JL audio 12TW-5 or the 13.5 TW-5 and trying(if possible) to vent it into the cabin through the spare tire top cover. Has anyone tried this? Any input would be great. Thanks in advance.
One thing that gets neglected nowadays with all the shallow subwoofers out there is that they still need a decent amount of airspace to breathe in. Ideally, you'd also want most of the enclosure space to be behind the driver as to not impede the rear wave.
The right way to build a box is to input the subwoofer parameters into a box modeling program like WinISD. That will tell you for a certain Q how many ft3 you need to build. Ideally, you want to shoot for .56 Q and equalize the frequency response to your liking. up to .7 Q is ok. However, most manufacturers recommend boxes that are way to small to sell product. You will find that the Q is .9 or even higher in the recommended box.
