Default Which GPS unit to buy?

Looking for a new GPS, but need the ability to do "routes".

Want to be able to put in waypoints/intersections/towns to form a driving route.

Have it route me to the intersection of hwy 1 and hwy 2 then to the intersection of hwy 3 and hwy 4 and so on, without having to hit the favorites/recent destination buttons.

I thought the Garmin 3790 would do this since it has the trip planner, but it doesn't, and Garmin has confirmed that.

Anyone know of a GPS that will allow me to do this?

Being able to upload a route from Mapquest would be very nice also.

Not looking for a "in the dash" model, just one that I can move from car to car.

Most Garmin's have that capability (at least the older ones did). You first set your start and ending destination. Once you have that plotted, you can add destinations on the way (If I'm not mistaken, there will be a detour button). Hope this helps.

Garmin has told me that the 3790 does not have the multi-stop capability. Not really looking for multi-stop, just the ability to have waypoints that the GPS follows thru the route.

Need for the GPS to be able to follow the route that I want, mainly for leading drives and so forth. Its nice to know when to turn when you are leading other cars!

Garmin tells me the 1400, 2200, 2300, 2400 series all will do what I want.

Headed up to Best Buy to see what each one would do.

The 1450 seems to allow me to set up a route as I want.

The 2350 does the same thing as the 3790... can't load a route that actually tells you how to get from point a to point b to point c etc without having to mess with the GPS as you are driving.

They did not have the 2200 series there, so couldn't compare that one.

Suggestions, thoughts, past experience?

My old 765T works a treat.

Some great instructions for route planning software here https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/776...here-for-tips/

Yeppers... I agree with what you are saying about being a drive leader....

But I want a GPS that will allow me to program in the route, so that I have less chance of missing a turn!

Garmin is driving me crazy.... they sell the 3790 stating it can do routes.

I think they have some obscure dictionary that states a route is "a series of destinations, but no need to follow the wanted roads!"

That's what the Garmin 765T does - you can pick them up quite cheaply on Ebay.

Can you send a route with waypoints from Mapquest or Mapsource?

I think you might be able to, but see the section Setting up Routes for those with SatNav in my link - there is some great free software there and instructions on how to use it.

Best GPS for me is Android phone. I have Google Maps and Copilot. Always with me, never gets stolen, Google Maps always up to date, can set up on PC, and its FREE.
