Default great deal on 1080P LCD

LCD TV

I'm thinking about getting this for my room. What do you guys think, I know it's a great deal, but the contrast ratio seems kind of low.

A deal on something that isn't exactly what you want or need may not be a deal at all.

Come on Dad....please can I get it PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!

Thats sounds like some kinda wisdom my dad would have told me.

And to anwer the OP it's an ok deal, the contrast ratio is really low though. I would look for one that had at least a 10,000:1 ratio

The contrast ratio is not necessarily low. Different manufacturers have different ways of measuring it. 10,000 or 15,000 to 1 is actually unobtainable if measured in actual use. Go to Costco and check out the set. If you like it, buy it. Check out their return policy on electronics, though, first. The policy has changed recently.

Check out the pixel response time...I know each manufacturer has their own test scheme (off to one, black to white, grey to grey) but that seems on the slow side. Magnavox isnt really know for quality. Personally, Id keep shopping or check the consumer report rating.

Magnavox has a pretty poor repair history as a brand.

From what I've read about this set, it's not fantastic, but for the price, it's not a bad deal. The 480i upscaling is said to be horrible, and the 720p upscaling is said to be sup par. 1080p sources should be displayed very nicely. Check out this thread for info http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread....24&page=1&pp=30

I might be inclined to pick up Westinghouse TX-42F430S 42" 1080p LCD for a few hundred more at BestBuy over that magnavox.

repair history is unneccessary since this is a costco purchase and they take anything back anytime for whatever reason. Decent price for the tv your getting though

I haven't read their new policy, but they stopped doing that due to abuse.

Costco only offers a 30 day return policy now on certain products, including TVs.. thanks to abuse.

if you have speakers already, i'd pony up a bit more and go plasma. Panasonic TH-42PH10UK.
10,000:1 contrast ratio.
