Do a search for Dash Cutting Club and make up your own mind.

There are other options aside from cutting the dash. Mine will be a little different especially since i live in such a crappy neighborhood i don't want my screen on display at all. I gotta finish building my car computer and figuring out how to integrate everything onto it first.

There are definately other options besides cutting your dash. Here are some pics of my carPC setup which includes a custom fiberglass bezel I made for the touchscreen. I even hacked into the OEM audio controls to have them control the PC as you can see in one of the pics.

I am using a laptop hard drive and the case has some rubber mounts for the drive.

That being said, I have used a regular desktop hard drive in another project I did and literaly just velcroed the drive to the side of the box I made since it was a budget project and I never had a problem. I haven;t heard of anyone ever looking a drive to vibration unless it was a really old or cheap drive.
