I have actually toyed with the idea of becoming a sponsor and selling the screens and some other stuff here. I don't know if there would be enough demand to justify paying the sponsor fees though.
If you aren't going to sell it, at least do a write up for it!
P-R-E-T-T-Y P-L-E-A-S-E!!!
as a side note, those panasonic ruggedized laptops have a gel casing around the hard drive to help absorb the vibrations. Maybe something coule be made to encase the hard drive. Even the velcro could 'give' some cushion for vibrations, I'd imagine.
I wouldn't worry about the hard drive vibration issue at all really. Especially with the cheap price of hard drives these days. Even if you lost one, which I suspect would be rare, it would be cheaper to just put another in.
I did do a write up on the screen housing I made, but for the life of me I cannot find it. I am trying to get a bunch of things done including my stealth V1 mount. Plus I have been selling a lot of modified color V1 displays lately, and I haven't had too much time to do other things.
I could easily make the screen mounts for people, but I wonder how many people would buy them since it requires the use of a car PC to function. Does anyone know of a conventional type system that can be controlled via a touchscreen? Does Alpine make a head unit that could possibly be mounted under the seat and be fully controlled by the touchscreen? This might make it more appealing to the masses.
I would say I would be looking at around $200 for the screen bezel minus whatever screen the buyer wanted. The basic lilliput touchscreen (which along with the zenarc is the carPC standard) would be around another $200 or so. The transflective modified screen, which I have an does not wash out even in direct sunlight, costs about $650 alone!! IMO, the sunlight viewable screen is WAY worth the money, but I don't know how many people would feel the same way.

There are definately other options besides cutting your dash. Here are some pics of my carPC setup which includes a custom fiberglass bezel I made for the touchscreen. I even hacked into the OEM audio controls to have them control the PC as you can see in one of the pics.
i would like to learn more... what's the software screen you have in that photo... tell me about the head controller unit mod's... ease my suffering...
Well, the PC is a windows XP machine. 1.5ghz if I remmebr whcih is more than enough. I am using the Roadrunner software and the DigitalFX skin. You can download and lear about the software and skins at MP3car.com
