Has anyone used these "Test CD's" for setting up their system?
They look like a good idea but dropping $60 + $7 shipping for something to use once or twice?? I'm not convinced.

Any other similar products? I realize for the sound quality, a person can't just grab an MP3 off the net and expect the same results . . .

A few years ago I got a TDK test CD on ebay for something like $2 plus shipping.
In my opinion the most useful tracks are the frequency sweeps, which helps you find those annoying rattles and buzzes. I've even made some of my own "test tracks" with slower frequency sweeps in the woofer and sub-woofer ranges ranges, along with some continuous-tone tracks every 5 Hz between 20 and 100 Hz, which for me is even better than the sweeps on the TDK CD.
The TDK CD did have some interesting tracks on harmonic distortion and a comparison between compressed and non-compressed music. Very interesting.

The Sheffield Labs CDs are recorded to very high standards and are great for demonstrating (but not exactly measuring) sound quality. A true studio reference audio disc can cost into the thousands of dollars.
But for bass (my favorite) nothing beats the original Bass Mekanik. 10-100hz test tones, and fifteen tracks of spleen bursting ba-a-a-sss!

I have a CD burner - - Is it really this easy? I'm not familiar with "CoolEdit"
Additionally, If anyone still has these aforementioned test cd's i'd be more than willing to pay someone with a burner some moolah to burn me a copy + shipping + extra for the PITA factor of going to the post box - OR if someone wants to rip as pure wave files and ftp . .that'll work too. PM me if anyone is interested. I can PayPal the $$.
Thanks in advance.
