Default HD Radio Headunits

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about buying a headunit with an HD tuner built in. Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions on one to get? I'm interested in hearing about people's personal experience with the units and if they're a significant improvement over the stock unit. I'm also not looking to spend a ton of money. Thanks!

lol, two days and nothin! couldn't someone at least tell me to look at a sticky or search or something? haha, anyway it looks like the selection is very slim. are Dual brand head units any good? it looks like its that jensen or jvc. of those im leaning towards the jvc. if this gets no responses i'll quit asking questions and crawl away!

I feel your pain, there are alot of members here that could give some input to help you, in this forum for some reason they just dont??? I wish I could help you, I actually questioned this to myself a while back, but I couldnt bring myself to purchase any of those brands! (HD and an interface w/my mp3 is all I needed). I folded and am going sirius/kenwood. (of those 3 I would go with JVC if I had to) I just put up a post myself, I dont expect any input.(although there are knowledgeable members that could help me also!)
If you need any other(performance oriented) questions feel free to ask me Ill Help if I can!

I was looking at the Alpine CDA9883, but realized the HD piece is an extra 2 bills so I'm waiting. We had a jensen a few years ago and it was quite nice, I must say (played MP3 and had an input on the front for mp3 players). It lasted the entire time we had the jeep (about 3 years before selling it). Despite taking the jeep off roading and the top off most of the summer, the banging and dirt didn't hurt the HU one bit. I'm looking at the jensen now just due to the success I've had in the past. Heck, at the $100-$150 range, I could replace it a couple of times and still be saving some money over one Alpine HU plus the HD add on.

Alright guys heres the low down on HD Radio..

First off it all depends where u live..

Myths about HD:
It will not improve reception. (ie if u got a crappy stations before it will still be crappy)
You will not receive other stations from far away.

Now the facts are this.. IF the radio station is broadcasting in HD and you are close enough to it the radio will switch to HD and u will hear it nicely.. But once you get an interference or move far enough away from the station ( sometimes just a town over) (or if you go next to a building that blocks it) then you will lose the HD and the radio will automatically go back to none HD quality.. There is a stall period of about 1 sec or so, so ur music will actually just stop...

Personally I think HD is too new for the public to buy, it really SUCKS BIG (for example here in modesto we get 6 stations of HD which suck anyways, they always go back to regular)... Pay the 12.95 a month and get sirius.. plus u dont have to listen to commericals with sirius..

If you still want HD, then start looking soon... Cause all new decks are coming in this month and next.. ie new alpine, jvcs, pioneers.. and such..
