I've been considering purchasing an HD Radio upgrade module for my Alpine HU but I wanted to get some impressions from folks who took the plunge. The Alpine HD module is quite expensive ($200) and I want to make sure the investment will be worthwhile. Ultimately, I am interested in better reception quality (standard radio reception is awful at times) and the additional broadcast channels would be handy as well.

So HD Radio owners, what's your take? Is it worth the upgrade? Or should I stick with an iPod.

No, HD signal will cut in and out. Im not sure about Alpine, but some units will lose all sound when signal is weak.

 

my friend ahs this in his truck and the regular radio stations sound "trashy" while the HD ones sound clear. i would say if you dont ahve to buy anything and can get it with the HU you chose built in then sure what the hell....but since you would have to spend money and its an open top car (noisy inside) you woldnt really notice the difference.

 

Not worth it. Locally for me, only about 3 or 4 stations even broadcast in HD, and like stated earlier, you can't really tell a difference.
