I have an alpine 9853 (Glide Touch) as well as a DCI installed for a couple of months, just recently the head unit seems to be locking up. The little red LED that is under the volume knob should blink only when there is ir being transmitted. When the deck locks up that led flashes constantly and no button on the deck will work. When you turn off the ignition and turn it back on the problem still persists. Only when removing the ACC fuse does it stop. However it will lock up again. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this sort of problem. Wondering if the deck or the DCI is defective

I haven't played with his DCI, but just cover up the IR transmitter from the DCI and see if the problem persists. That should help you isolate if the problem is with the radio or the DCI.

When it locks up, doest it still play a cd and just lose controls or everything shuts off?

 

I have tried to cover the IR and it doesn't stop, Yes the CD still plays or if in tuner mode the radio still plays. I just can't adjust volume, change track or station or even turn it off

 

Sounds like your radio needs to be serviced. Hopefully, it's still under warranty...
