Headrest speakers worth it?
Hey guys, looking to improve the crappy sound system in my 01. I pretty much cant hear anything in speeds over 60 and was looking at the headrest speakers that HTG sells might help a bit since the speakers right there and they do look pretty cool. I was just wondering if theyre actually worth the 450 bucks and would the stock HU even be enough to power those speakers too? I mean they can practically power the stock speakers so im assuming Ill need a new HU too. Or should I just put the money towards a new HU and new speakers?
I think they are worth it. My only issue is that I wish the rear speakers had a bit more power. You still hear the 'surround' effect, but it could be slightly more. Just to be safe, why not get a new HU and hookup Modifry's DCI?
I'd go with some new components for the doors and a new head unit and plan on an amp eventually. Once you've got good speakers in the doors with enough power going to them you won't have any problem hearing them at 85 mph+.
I bought some housings off ebay and put some polks in them and it sounds awesome. I am running components in the doors, which helps the most. But good sound over 60 is hard to get with the stock door speakers and HU. I would recommend doing the components in the doors and the headrests, and eventually upgrade HU and add an amp.

I spent my money on a JL 300/2 to power the CDT Eurosport components, and I couldn't be happier. I like the sound coming from in front of me instead of behind me, so that was an easy decision for me. Anything aftermarket is a VERY big upgrade from stock by the way as long as you install it correctly. I would try a good set of components and a good amp first, and if that doesn't work for you, toss in some cheaper components in an S-pod run off your headunit.
