That's awesome then
Yep, I have my iPod cable running to the glove box. Another option, but more work to install, is up to the secret compartment above. If you follow this thread through to the middle of the 2nd page, Dave walks you through such an install, with tons of pictures:

FWIW, I got a chance to check out the iDA-X### models vs. several other brands like Eclsipe, JVC, Pioneer and Kenwood. I thought they all sounded pretty excellent (they were being switched through a pretty nice AMP/speaker setup).

However, I though the X305 MP3/iPOD interface was worlds better/faster. Granted there are new models from some of the other vendors due out soon, but right now, I can't imagine a better UI.

keep in mind when choosing between the two that the iDa series has 2volt preouts, while the 9886 has 4volt preouts.

Are the pre-outs the amp remote signals? If so then i don't think it will matter too much as won't be running an amp (atm) but if i do then a relay system will be installed

Just a quick question about the pricing though... when do the new models come out from Alpine as wouldn't this drop the x305 price by about

X303

Hey, just found this headunit... it's the IDA-X303.. is this just a slight downgrade from the 305? or just one that does not have the full color screen and slight aesthetic changes??

I'm the same way (100 vs. 305), for the slight price difference I'd wind up wishing I had the newer model...

...I think

I looked at the X303 too - it sounded the same to me, but the display is a major difference. I've seen them for about $50 difference and think the multiline/color is much better than the single line/mono. Though I wonder how much time you really spend staring at the HU.

If you follow this link to AlpineUSA I have those two selected for a side-by-side comparison:

Well the BB parser is freaking out at the URL, let me try using a quote:

http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...c=Alpine&model[]=iDA-X305&model[]=iDA-X303&source=/US-en/products/series-c.php&category=AV_HU
The 305 says 24-bit Burr-Brown DAC (vs. just 24bit on the 303), etc., check out the link, it's pretty detailed.

Just thought i would update this thread -

Basically I have purchased the IDA-X100 over the weekend and installed it looks great and works fantastic.... will post up pictures in a separate thread for you all to drool over

Also the ipod has been wired into the 'secret compartment (front crevice)' and IMO looks v.professional
