HELP! Can't figure out why my mids/tweet...
thats what the shop said, but said the Y connector should solve the problem if the RCA is bad. Since it hasn't, I guess my HU has to go back.
So far my swapping of the Front and Rears RCAs has solved the problem, but I've only been able to listen to 15 minutes of music or so.

interesting.... good info and the pictures are great!
since flip-flopping the RCA's left to right moved the problem, we can be pretty darn sure it's HU to RCA related.
i'm focusing some on the amps b/c a high input level to the amp could trigger clipping and distortion that sounds like this as well.
however, the sub on / sub off scenario is a bit confusing.
also, noticing the input sensitivities are they set 5 o'clock or is that 10 o'clock? does dialing down the gains help w/ the sub on?
this is also something quite interesting to note:

thanks i have no clue how to set any of these. i just adjusted the level and hz to what i like my system to sounds like, but will switch it to what u suggested.
will keep everyone posted.
thanks

most of the amp's settings look good and done well. however, sending high voltage into the low voltage setting is essentially overloading the inputs for the amp, which could cause distortion.
give a glance at the S2000 Electronics FAQ. in there under (i think) the amps section, i have a writeup (or a link to a writeup) on setting amp gains. it has some analogies that might help you understand what's going on a bit better.
keep us updated.

I made the changes you suggested and the problem is still here??? Funny thing I did notice is that the problem comes with time. Basically in the morning the problem doesn't appear, but after listening to the music for maybe an hour or so the crackling starts and stays like that until the following morning. I have an appointment to have the system check out this week and hopefully they will have a solution. Any ideas what else the problem can be with all the problems I've listed:
1. 1 Front Speaker cracks (other side is fine)
2. Problem goes away if I turn off the SUB and comes on right when the SUB comes back on.
3. Tried using a Y connector to 1 RCA, but both speakers started to crack.
4. Problem occurs when listening to music after an hour or so and goes away in the morning.
Thats about it for now. Thanks for any suggestions!

curious curious curious! this is a tough one....
it's been a while, gonna re-read this thread quickly....
ok -- try this one... unplug the RCA's from the sub amp and put them somewhere out of the way where they won't touch metal or ground out.
then turn the sub on and off at the HU and see if the crackling still occurs when the sub is on and doesn't when the sub is off..
that should eliminate the possibility something like grounding back through the sub RCA's.
i forgot to ask -- do you own a multi-meter? and do you know how to use it?
it's really starting to look like the HU tho.

*UPDATE*
They said the amp was bad and basically it would send something back to the deck which distorted the mid/tweets. The 500/1 is being sent back to JL for warranty and hopefully this will solve it. With the AMP out and the HU sub output on the MIDS/Tweets dont distort...
Will let everyone know when the amp comes back
