Default Help with mounting my Alpine CHM-S630 6 CD Changer

I just received my CD changer and I want to mount it this weekend. I'd like to mount it in the cabin, underneath the seat.

For those of you who mounted it there, how did you do it? I was thinking of not using the brackets, but just putting velcro on the bottom of the unit and the mating velcro on the floor. Would this work?

What are my alternatives?

Thanks.

I am also curious about this. How do you mount it? Will it fit correctly? Thanks!

I don't have mine mounted there, however, I have read post from guys that have mounted under their seats. They did use Velcro to hold it in place. At one time I had it in my trunk with Velcro, and it worked fine. I know have mine in my secret compartment.

What are the restrictions in height? I don't want to purchase a CD changer that won't fit. Thanks!

Well, we started the install and discovered that it can't fit underneath the passenger seat because of a hump in the floor. I didn't want it under the driver's seat, so we put it in the trunk. We put it on the drivers side on the ledge. I used the velcro to go right into the liner. The firm plastic like part of the velcro seems to grip the trunk liner tightly. I didn't want to use the brackets and mount it there permanently as I might need to or want to move it.

Running the wire was easy enough. I ran it down the passenger side of the console. If you remove the passenger side rear panel (where the Lucid rear speakers are) and the spare tire you can pull the wire into the trunk. From there it is simply a matter of fishing it through the drivers side trunk liner to the unit.

The hardest part was fitting the radio back in with the Peripheral adapter and Lucid adapter behind it.

After the rains stop I'll take it on the road. My remaining question is will it skip because of the way that I mounted it. If so, I'll have to use the brackets and make it permanent, which I really don't want to do yet.

By the way, the install is much easier with your 9 year old son helping. It really makes it more fun even though it takes twice as long.

ralper,
You should not have any problems with skipping with the way you mounted it. The Alpine unit has High Speed, Anti-Vibration Mechanism with Silicon Oil Dampers, however, because of the rigidity of the S if you hit a strong bump it might skip a little. Glad everything worked out for you. I know what you mean about having a partner. My eleven year old son helped me with my entire install. It was great to have a small pair of hands to help.

i just installed mine
and i put it under my drivers seat. It was well worth it. all you have to do is take out the seat. (4 bolts) and then use the mounting brackets from alpine and mount it on the front medal plate on the seat. this is a really good idea because the cd changer is easy to get to and it will not skip there. The whole processes took me and my father about 30 min. IT's funny you mention that, I am 20 and my parents are recently divorced. I gotmy first job at a lawfirm as a network admin and decided to buy a S. My father and I have had a great time adding a stereo and such.
if you have any qyestions feel free to PM me!

OK stupid question: Is there CD changer wiring already fed to the trunk like in an NSX? I'm looking to just drop an Alpine MP3 S634 and feed it to the stock HU (with a bunch of adaptors.) Would be nice not to have feed cable, etc.
