Thumbs up HELP! RSX Sub drained my battery!

I installed the RSX sub into my S about a month ago. And this morning, after being gone for the long weekend, I find my S out of power.

I think the subwoofer drained my battery. I tapped the 12v "MEMORY" power from the head unit which I think is always on

Is there any device I can get which will automatically shut off power to the sub if it goes inactive for a period of time. Or do I need to reroute power? Is there something else from the head unit I can tap that's not always on?

I read the usual threads but didn't get a clear answer on power. Half the peeps seem to already have an amp hooked up and just tap that. Search isn't helping either since it doesn't like short 3 letter words like "RSX".

Any help would be appreciated!

yep, use the 12V ignition wire. It is on when the key is in ONLY.

amps run from the 12V always on line, but they use a separate signal wire that turns the amp on when the radio is on, much like a relay. The RSX sub lacks this. There is more than enough amperage for a deck and RSX sub on the 12V ignition line the radio operates on.

That makes sense. I think I just jumped on the memory wire because it was the first wire with a 12v marking on it.

Thanks guys.

If for some reason you still have problems then set up a switch relay.

You would need to buy a 30A Switch Automotive Switch Relay (about $5 from Radio Shack).

You then wire it like this:

I have an Alpine deck and it is hard wired to the battery. That being the case the normal yellow 12V from the harness is free. This is the one that I have going to #30. It supplies the postitive power. If your HU is connected to the harness power then you would tap into that one. Put an inline fuse in the line.

#30 - Constant 12V (+) Always live
#86 - Ground
#85 - Remote Amp Turn on from Receiver (Switches the relay on and off, allowing the juice from #30 to go to #87) Your HU needs to have an Amp Turn on lead.
#87 - Juice to Bose Amp.
