Help with Static in system?
I got a problem with my sistem:
HORRIBLE static is coming out of the speakers... it sounds like about 50% static + 50% music. I'm running the power and RCA's seperately and the static only hits when there is music is playing... silence otherwise.
Also, the music plays very soft considering the amp's power rating. At the HU's full volume, the music is not even 1/4 as loud as a stock system at half loudness.
I don't really know how to go about isolating the problem with static/volume... any suggestions? thanks all!
FYI: I'm running the following parts in my system
- HU: Eclipse 55060
- Speakers: Boston RC620
- Amps: JL 500/1, JL 300/2
- Sub: JL 12W6V2
- Wiring: JL Power Kit / Stinger RCA

For us to help your gonna have to explain how you installed everything, otherwise we'd just be guessing. We need to know exactly how you wired the system. If the static gets louder or soft with RPM's and so forth. It could be from a few different things... the most likely is bad wiring somewhere, but it could be a few other things.
Is it there with the radio and CD or one or the other?

out of phase wiring won't sound like that, so i'm sorry Avernus, but that's an erroneous guess.
we really need more details.
how are you wired? be specific.
from the head unit (HU) are you using RCA outs or speaker level outs?
at the amps, are you inputing via RCA's or speaker level connections?
what are your gains set at?
does it sound noisey w/ the engine off and the key turned to accessory?
is the noise related to engine or other electronic items (ie fans, power windows, etc.)?
are there any output level control settings in your HU?
and some introductory questions...
do you own and know how to use a multi-meter? can you borrow one or get help?
have you checked your connections at the crossovers?
does it make the noise with the RCA's at the amp disconnected, and the amps on?

interesting... what do you mean by "crossed the wires"?
i assumed you meant that you connected the + to - and - to + versus the + to + and - to -.
if you actually mean touching bare wires 'crossed' or connecting the crossover up wrong (sending the power in through the tweeter out, etc.) -- yeah, you might get some static. sorry, i may have read that wrong....

I bet you my hard earned .02 that your tweeter wires are touching. I had this the first time I installed my system, and it drove me insane trying to figure it out. It may not be in your tweeter, but it will be somewhere where the wires can touch. (+&-) Check the tweeters, the woofers, the crossovers, headunit, and the amp connections, then we'll work from there.
Diagnostic question....are there any irregularities when you hit bumps? (change of sound, ie. no static, more static, cuttin in, out, whatever)
