Default help with sub

My sub only works when i push the actual speaker in and then it will start playing and then turn off a sec or two after I let go. I checked the wires from the sub to the box and the box to the amp. My question is that it has been really cold here for like a week or so. Could it be possibly the frigid temps (close to zero)? Any imput would be appreciated. I opened the sub and the actual speaker was frozen and had some condensation on it. Any ideas?

I dont think it is the temps.....My system loves the cold.

Can you eleborate on what you mean by "push the speaker in?"

like i put pressure on the speaker itself. It seems like I have to push the speaker and keep pressure on it for a connection to be made. Almost like poking the pilsbury dough boy and keeping your finger there...thanks for the help

ouch.

how old is the speaker? w/in warranty still?

you might need to consider that a coil lead or something internally might be broken.

you mentioned inspecting the sub out of the box -- can you readily inspect the sub itself? and perhaps shoot some pictures? i'm specifically concerned w/ the tinsel leads going from the connectors to the voice coil.

Without pressing the cone, get a voltmeter and check for continuity. You set the voltmeter to ohms and check that you read something. If the needle stays at infinity, the voice coil is open.

Frozen condensation? That can't be normal even if it's not bad.
