(Help!) USA Spec Install on 2008 CR
I've googled, and searched everywhere and couldn't find a single other person having the same problem so i'm posting here. If the issue had been addressed before, I apologize for the post and hopefully someone can post a link.
The problem i'm having with my USA Spec PA15-HON2 is rather strange. When I have my iPhone plugged into the cable before starting the car, the unit will work perfectly with no problems. However, when nothing is plugged into the cable, when I start the car, and I plug in my iPhone i just get an "XM" on my display and nothing happens. After I wait about a minute, I can skip to different songs and it seems like the music is playing but I get no sound whatsoever. The display on my stock radio shows the name of the artist or song but there is no sound. Also, I can switch to FM or AM radio, but it won't switch back to xm (iPhone).
The only way to get it to work properly again is to turn off the ignition and turn it back on while the iPhone is plugged in. I've tried it with my 2nd gen Nano and the same thing happens.
I've contacted USA Spec and they seem to be stumped as well. Tech support told me to unplug the XM (orange wire) and try again, but the same thing happened. The tech then told me to wire a relay as shown in their manual eventhough we all know that the S2000 doesn't come with an entertainment system. I don't get any sound unless it's plugged in before I start the car. I even tried turning the radio off and on and nothing works, i need to completely shut the engine off and turn it back on to get it to work again.
It's really frustrating, I've done about 3 weeks of research, tried to cover all the possible mishaps and when it's finally installed, the unit fails on me.
Anyone have any similar issues with the USA Spec Adapter?

I've had similar issues with my USA-Spec adapter on my '06, but not quite the same. If I have the radio on and then attach my iPod (3rd gen Nano), it will play the songs but then stop after 30 seconds or so and display "XM Loading" on the HU. Even if I skip to the next track, it will play another 30 seconds or so of that song and then display "XM Loading".
The best solution that I've found is to turn off the HU everytime before I attach/remove my iPod. I also try to turn off the HU itself every time before shutting the car off. This seems to work 99% of the time for my problems. I should also say that when I put it into "Direct Mode" I don't have any of the aforementioned problems.
Hope this helps you in some way, you're not alone with your problems!

schmittx sorry to hear you're having issues with yours too, it seems like a real pain to turn off your HU everytime.
I'm guessing that some of these units are defective. Lucky for me USA Spec is 10 minutes away from my house. I'll stop by some time this week and see if a new unit solves the problem.

It's weird, lately it's been working perfectly...I've kept the radio on constantly and haven't experienced any of the prior issues...I think you're right about the possible defects.
I think for now it works well enough...I like the OEM look and "feel" of everything and I didn't want to spend a boatload at the moment on a nice HU + Modifry DCI, however I think in the long run I will probably resort to a full aftermarket setup.

I've had problems with the USA Spec iPod Adapter. My first one I bought 2 years ago (can't remember the model #), literally fried on the inside and fried a circuit in my 30Gb 5th Generation iPod. Got that smell of burning silicon. Pulled over and the white case was blazing hot. Disconnected it and opened up my 30Gb ipod and some circuitry was fried, but everything was still functional on it. Put new faceplates on the iPod and sold it on Craigslist. Thank God the stereo was unaffected!
Took a chance and bought the current version of the USA Spec for the iPod and it works relatively flawless. I bought it about 6 months ago and I have it connected to my 32Gb iPod Touch. Below is the picture of my setup. Its the reply dated April 9th.

I haven't had any problems with this and made sure that my switch settings were as the manual specified. My only issue that I get sometimes is that when I reconnect my iPod Touch, occasionally it will get confused and recursively go from the default playlist to initially finding the unit and then to the default playlist, etc. That's quickly solved by hitting the main button on the iPod Touch, and going back to the music icon and selecting a song.
Overall though, I'm satisfied with the unit.
