I can swap the amp to the dual 2 ohm. So i guess this is the best way to get good power out of the sub without problems right?

most of the suggestions we've made will not cause problems, just not full power.

if you can swap anything, swap the subwoofer for a dual 2ohm instead of a dual 4ohm.

alternatively you can keep the dual 4 ohm sub and get an amp that is stable at 2ohm mono. most mono amps will do that, some stereo amps will do bridged 2ohm mono (but not the cheap ones).

np... i can see over driving it a little bit, but going 140+% of rated RMS is a bit much...

um, no...if you wire it in series 4+4=8, when you run your amp in mono it sees half 8/2=4.

uh, that makes no sense.

ok so we all agree that wiring a dual 4 in series = 8 ohms?

once you wire it that way, the amp will always see 8 ohms, the fact that you're running a stereo amp in MONO does not change the resistance on the amp it only increases the amount of power @ 4ohms

the only thing that gets divided by two would be the power, instead of putting out 420 @ 4 ohm, it would be ~210 @ 8 ohm.

Series: 4+4 = 8
Parallel (4*4)/(4+4) = 16/8 = 2

Read your instructions that came with the amp or call a stereo shop. Both will tell you your amp will see 1/2 the ohms when you run it in mono.

You could get a second sub. 420 watts from the amp, 210 watts into each sub and only 105 per coil.
