Default Hey, get in here.....

Here is a pickle....Do you guys think a water cooled hard drive tray can be used to cool an amp?

I was thinking since I have this useless space between my crossovers....

I was going to put this in.....

and use it to cool my amps or something.....

Rest the amps on these...

Since its watercooling, you need a bling bling anti-Phil radiator

I think my trunk will look really good with properly and symmetrically installed....hoses doing the bling bling thing....

running around in here....

I am considering doing this....so comments people!

actually, i think watercooling isn't a bad idea, but unless you get the radiator out of the trunk, you probably won't be cooling anymore effectively than you are now... you'll still be dumping into the hot trunk as your thermal reservoir.

I'm just playin' Dave. Actually I think it would be cool. (No pun intended.)

Ok, actually the pun WAS intended.

Mabey, not Phil. If you could get some airflow over the radiator, it could work. Even in a "closed" trunk. Look at the radiator on the engine. It's in the hot engine compatment. Granted there is more flow from under the hood, but there is also a LOT more heat.

However, I don't think it would be complete without a giant SPDT switch and a Jacob's ladder effect like an old Frankenstein Movie.

It's definately show, but do you think you will gain any performance with it? Are the amps getting too hot now? Electronics tend to prefer a steady temperature and usually the temperature that they are designed to operate in. In a car amp, I imagine they are designed to operate fairly hot. But also be fairly forgiving considering their environment.

Its not just airflow, its cooler air flowing over the radiator. Air in the trunk gets hot, so unless the radiator is elsewhere, it won't do any good and will just generate more heat in the trunk.

With the engine, the radiator is usually right next to the engine to save on costs, and its almost always in front of it for a reason - the engine radiates heat, and in a car in motion, that heat trails the engine. When the car is in motion, the radiator hits the cool air he engine hasn't heated yet, so its actually not being effected too much by the engine unless you aren't moving.

The cooling unit is a neat idea, but to make it work you'd need to draw air from elsewhere. Maybe outside the car, maybe from the cabin, but the idea is to move heat around, and if you just move it around the trunk, it won't do much.

Nahhh...my amps need no cooling. They never run hot, as they arent running more than 60%. Even in 100+ summer heat, I have no issues. THis is purely bling bling bling.

Gotta beat john somehow.
