Default HID electronic help

Sorry, its not s2000 related but maybe someone could offer some assitance. I installed an HID kit on my Yukon Denali. The kit is fine and the ballast are fine, I have swaped them out a few times. One of the light does not go on immediately but does when I unplug one of the clips and plug in back in again. No breaks in the clip or the wiring since I checked them many times with a continuity tester. Does this have anything to do with a relay or any ideas why I need to unplug it and plug it again in order for it to work? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance..

Arnold, if you can, swap the ballasts and see if you get the same problem....

Too many things can be the problem....so gotta narrow em down.

Actually, swap the bulbs, see if it happens to the good side....

Hey Dave, I did try that oo. I swapped out about three different sets. As soon as the unit is unplugged then plugged in again they work fine. Somehow it resets itself so I am wondering if a relay maybe needed?

Sounds like your drawing a lot of power on startup,... and you should be, so you may need to run new power leads and control the via a relay. Your not popping the fuse so that's a good sign. It sounds to me like the one your having trouble with isn't getting its fair share of power during startup. Sounds to me like you need to install a relay on the stock lighting circuit to control the power for the HID's.

I can draw you a diagram if you need it on how to do it. You might just be able to rewire it but honestly it's most likely a lot more work. I'm not overly fimilier with the Yukon's wiring, but I would bet that the one your having trouble with is the second in line one. Meaning that the first one on the circuit is sucking up all the power and the second one is not getting the startup power it need to fire up the ballast properly, that's way its delayed.

Sounds like you need to change the wiring a little. What are the power requirement specs on the box? and what brand are they?

thanks, the balalst are from phillips...If you dont mind drawing the diagram that would be great. I am a bit familiar with wiring so I could put your diagram in place. I am assuming there is not enough power as you stated to fire up the ignitor.
