Default HID Fog light Question

Hey guys, I'm looking at installing a set of HID's into my Spoon bumper fog lights but have run into a problem.
The fog light housing holds a H1 bulb however, the bulb sits in a holder/adapter that locks and seals itself into the back of the housing.

If I were to just buy a plug and play H1 kit, it likely wouldn't work because you obviously wouldn't be able to use that adapter.... So i'm not sure how I'd set the bulb and have it stay there and or seal the back of the fog light housing?

Any ideas?

HIDs require a ballast. Where is it?

Huh?
I understand how a HID kit works. What I'm having an issue with is how would I get the HID bulb to sit in the housing? If you look at the fog light pictured above you'll notice the standard halogen H1 bulb sits in some sort of adapter which I won't be able to reuse with an HID kit.

D,

there is a bulb out there that is just like the H1 without the right angle in the bulb base. I think that it's either 9006 or 9005. but if you grab the correct bulb base HID bulb and then it will fit. you may have sub par output due to the reflector and shade in front of the bulb. did the TYCs come with the asm bumper?

there's a couple things you could do:

buy a 900X bulb kit and run it. don't open the light up.

open it, buy 900x hid kit, have better light

forget HID and go LED headlight bulb

or

buy different fogs with a projector and do an HID kit.

there's a lot options. a know with the new LED bulbs you can get hid like intensity and light output (3000 lumens). retrofit source has some very nice looking new LED bulbs for headlights that are only 100 USD and don't have any of the trouble of glare, shield issues or projector stuff.

just my two cents. good luck.

The foglights came with my Shine Spoon front bumper.

I looked at replacing the whole unit and getting a Full LED foglight but the problem is the actual foglight housing is Huge... the diameter of the lens is about 5 inches... I'm having difficulty finding anything that size without it costing me an arm and a leg.... Ex. https://www.theretrofitsource.com/co...l#.VtGzI-a0eDk

What I might just end up doing is putting in just a Yellow H1 Bulb and calling it a day....

Do you have any picture show behind the bumper where we can see the fog housing?

Does it have any reserved mounting points for the fog brackets ?

I would look at the ford specific 4" led fog. another option would be the buy the X6 led fog lights, and retrofit them into the lights that came with the bumper. another option would be the just leave the spoon bumper lights and just replace the bulb with LEDs.

the JW speaker lights are very pricey. and over kill. those are used as headlights by a lot of motor cyclist. I personally don't like the way they are laid out either.

Putting HIDs in a reflector housing like that will change the focal point of the light source. This will do two things:
  • Give you far less output where you need it.
  • Put light into the eyes of oncoming traffic in a blinding way.
I'd just use stock bulbs (do you have an output issue with the stock HIDs?) and be done with it or look into a proper LED setup.
