Default Honda NAVI System

I believe I've read where the NAVI system used in Japan allows the user to play DVDs when the parking brake is engaged. Does anyone else have any additional info? Has anyone tried to get ahold of one of these units and incorporate it in their S2000 or Acura.

You would be better off going w/ a system from Alpine . I looked into ordering the Honda Odessey's DVD navigation components and have it custom installed like the one in Japan. Only thing is, total cost is around 4500.00 retail and about 3500.00 wholesale. For that much, I would do a custom install w/ an Alpine screen, DVD navigation and DVD changer. (Alpine makes Honda's navigation system anyway) But if you want to keep a factory look, I would go w/ that. Stop by your parts dept. and ask for the navigation parts diagram. They will print it out and give you the part #s. I used to have it, but I threw it out. Good Luck!

you can buy the alpine dvd nav system, with everything but the monitor(which annoyingly must be an Alpine monitor), for $1600 brand new. i had one in my last car. i am sad without it and am going to install it in my 02' asap.

I think a retractable monitor from Alpine are much more secure than the Honda JDM optional Navi system when parking with the top down.

That's a sweet setup in the JDM VGS. They get all goodies over there: premium colors, Nav, VGS, mix and match colors.

Anyway if you have to mount a montior, why not do it in the visor? That way its closer to your eyes, you don't have to cut up the dash, and you can hide it.

If it's in the visor won't it be too close to your eyes?

I don't know about USA - but Portable Navi is now becoming popular in Japan with CD versions at about $600 and the DVD at $1300 from Sanyo. The advantage being that you only have to install a cradle for the unit like for a phone, and the you can use it in multiple vehicles - or just play DVD movies someplace - where ever you are. Don't know of the performance compared to install - but the screen shots look similar.

No. Even if you wear progressive lenses (mid section of lens for relatively close vision), it's not a problem. I welded a bracket to replace the driver side visor. It mounts with stock visor mount screw and the other end of the 1/4" rod goes into center visor hole. I used a RAM mount to mount a Garmin III + and a Passport 8500 is at the right side of the bracket. I intend to replace both of these units later, but for now they work just fine.

I intend to install a remote mount radar detector and a more capable nav system too.

Unfortunately no. My digital camera (Canon) got crunched. I sent it in for repair and they haven't got back to me. Guess I should call and ask as it's been at least a month. I'm gonna buy a new one anyway, just haven't figured out what to get yet. Will post pics when I get re-digitized.
