Default Honda Security Help

Hey guys a little help please

My S came with a OEM honda security system that works pretty well. But one day it changed to active arm mode (where after 30 seconds it'll arm itself). Don't know why it changed but it did.

Do any of you guys know how to change it back to where it'll only arm when I lock the door with my remote? It's been really annoying and I would like to get this fixed. Any kind of help is appreciated

This morning I just installed the Honda security system on my MY04. Hopefully, the info is the same on yours.

On the main unit there is a three position switch. Top position is auto lock - system arms and locks the doors after the doors are closed. Middle position is Auto, system arms automatically, but does not lock the doors. Bottom position is Manual - arms the system when the doors are locked with the remote.

I'd guess that something just bumped the switch. I set mine to manual - I don't like being locked out of my car!

Hey Revenuer-

Was it much work to install the OEM alarm?

I'm thinking about getting one, but I'm kind of lazy and was wondering how long it took you. Is it pretty much plug & play?

The install wasn't too bad. Took me about 3 hours including several breaks to stretch. The Honda instructions that hardtopguy.com sent with the unit were pretty good. I did have some trouble getting the lower steering column cover off, must have spent 20 minutes just on that. Would have been easy, but one of the clips just wouldn't release and I didn't want to snap them off.

Other than that, it was all just plug and play - no cut wires! That was the reason I went with the Honda unit. I've installed after market alarms on 60's era cars where figuring out what wires need to be cut is easy, after looking at all of the wires jammed under the dash of the S2000, I just didn't want to mess with it.

Something to keep in mind however, I'm a skinny guy and only 5' 7" and I still had one heck of a time getting to all of the stuff you need to disconnect and reconnect. It is really tight quarters under the dash.

I just bot my 04 and am thinking about alarm system now. How much did you pay for the OEM system?

How do you think the OEM alarm compares to aftermarket systems available?

Would you consider Lojack?

Jocko did you put yours in yet?

An alarm is completely worthless without a hood switch. All someone has to do it pop the hood and disconnect the battery.

It's not a moton sensor so much as it is a shock sensor. I expect that the vibration of the garage could cause false alarms, but more likely it's a-holes like me with LOUD exhausts that hold the RPMS at the perfect resonsance level and play "alarm false bingo" or "how many car alarms can I set off today."

You can turn down the sensitivity of a shock sensor. One thing to consider (particularly in a convertable.) is a proximity sensor. This will trip the alarm (in two stages, close, and really close.) to discourage theives who might want to cut the top to remove whatever they want from the interior.

BTW -- My goal is to prevent the theft in the first place. Once it's been stolen, I probably am not going to want it back. Once it's been hacked up and beat on the idea of rescuing it does not appeal to me, I would rather just get the insurance settlement (but that's just me.) So no LoJack for me.

Good point and something to consider. I'll put all that info into the 'confusarium' and see what I decide on.

What aftermarket alarm systems do you recommend?
