Is the 2002 radio a direct replacement for the 2000 model or does it mount differently?

I did my '02 rear speaker (Lucid) installation just last week. I couldn't get the top clips loose, and didn't want to pry too hard with the taped screw driver. Mine came out exactly as XViper described: Pull on the door (half lowered) or door frame first, before unclipping it anywhere along the top. Wiggle it gently until the bottom clips let go, and then the top clips come out easy after the bottom is loose. (Use increasing pulling force until the bottom clips are free). Well, anyway, it worked for me.

Mine was a real SOB also. The top of mine came off first with a taped screwdriver, the bottom would not give. The screwdriver left a compression mark, but returned to normal an hour later.I was able to get my fingers behind the vent (ouch, this really hurts if you let go) and still would not come loose. I finally went for broke and the cover finally broke free. All the clips stayed in the dash, none stayed on the door. Pulled the clips out of the dash with a needlenose pliers and re-installed them on the door. I could swear it broke at the time when it released.

I think the assembly tolarances are getting tighter since every piece of the interior that I have removed has been just as tight.

Bieg,
I have the same concern, since I have a 2002 radio purchase in progress. I PM'd Lucid the following:

Lucid,
Can you confirm or deny that the 2002 head unit is a direct replacement for the 2001 head unit. The reason I'm asking is that apparently the mounting is different. From what I remember the 2001 mounts via a coupla studs with nuts doing the securing. Some are saying that the 2002 mounts with 4 screws. I'm interested in upgrading to the 2002, but only if I can do it painlessly without changing how it's mounted.

And here's Lucid's reply:

Good to hear from you man!! Yeah its the same, it will mount up NO problem all the wiring and brackets line up. I have one so I'm 100% on this.
