You may have better luck in the electronics forum, moving there.

hrm.

i'm not sure that you do. the only way i can figure it is possible would mean you'd have to cut in a relay into the switch wiring for your headlight, and trigger that switch from the engine on feed from the fusebox.

while i'm pretty sure i could do this for myself, i'm not about to tell anyone else how to. this is more of a modifry or macgyver question if you ask me.

To have auto off, you need auto-on (to have your headlights working properly.) To have auto on, youll need a light sensor, and some good knowledge of auto electronics. Since you are asking this question, please take no offense, but means you cant do it. Just flick the switch. YOu are looking at AT LEAST a few hundred dollars to do this.

Dave,

it depends on whether he wants them to auto on/off w/ changing light conditions or based upon ignition control..

cutting in some relays so that the lights power up and down w/ the car wouldn't be nearly as difficult as full auto headlights.

in either case though, if you're asking this question, i'd agree you probably can't or shouldn't do it yourself.

Yea, but, if you have your headlights working off your ignition, you wont be able to turn them ON when the car is off (Not a safe thing to do if you broke down in the middle of the night.) You also dont want the lights ON when the car is on during the day.

Thats a ghetto rigging way of doing it, and not up to EJ standards. Its either do it right, or dont do it.

You might be able to go to a junkyard, and see if they have a totalled newer lexus, infiniti, acura or something, and see if you can score the light sensor.

Again, I dont think you should attempt this....auto headlights are a decent amount of wiring labor.

lol. Dave, i guess it's what you're wanting at the end of the day.

i know a buddy of mine back in college had a Saab, and his headlights were setup in this fashion. i think he had a bypass that would let him turn on the lights w/ the key out of the ignition... and his lights ran full time day or night, whenever the car was running... go figure, Saab was the predecessor of daytime running lights.

while simplistic and old fashioned, it's hardly a ghetto concept or implimentation. in the end though, either way of doing it it is not a project i'd be interested in undertaking.... and to be completely honest, not a feature i'd want on a purist sports car anyway...

not to mention, have you noticed that we're the only people in here? the OP is nowhere to be seen... jeez, i'm going home. hit the lights for me on your way out, Dave.

My Acura had auto off, but not auto on. This means I can leave them on at night id I intend to return to the car before morning. I liked that. Alone, however, that is not enough to make me drive a 3.2 TL-S all day.
