How does a Sub in the trunk really sound?
I'm running an Eclipse 88120Ti, which is a 12" Titanium driver. I have a custom fiber glass box in the trunk that sits flush with the floor. Indeed bass does travel well into the cabin, however, with a sub of that magnitude, rattling is inevitable. I wanted some earth shattering SPL, but it is not quite possible with the S2000. I think that I have as much bass as I could with this car, and am quite satisfied, but I am a bass freak.
I don't think anyone who has invested a lot of time and money into getting a sub will say it's bad... but I will!
I built my own fiberglass stealthbox (with no prior experience) and am using a 12" JL W0 and a Coustic amp. I don't know offhand what kind, but when I first got the sub and amp for my previous car, it was a dealer-recommended amp so I'm sure it's the right size for that sub.
When the trunk is open and your face is directly over the sub it sounds pretty good. But not much bass makes it to the cabin. Most likely, the problem is the box I made isn't very good, or perhaps I need to get a more efficient sub and bigger amp. The JL W0 is their cheapest one and it needs a lot of space. But if you buy from Lucid, I'm sure he only offers components that are optimized for the small space.
Anyway, the sweetest thing about my setup is that, using existing components from my old car, I made the box and installed everything myself for under $100.

I have a JL Audio 10" that is mounted in a custom fiberglass/MDF combo box. It is mounted on the left side of the trunk and the sub faces to the right. We tried positioning a sub to see how it would sound. The sub facing the rear is best, and then to the side is next best, facing forward or upward was not very good when we tried. So, I chose to the side as it was easier and cheaper and more practical, in terms of leaving as much trunk space as possible. The edge of the box comes right to where the well is. I have pictures but can't figure out how to put them on here!!!!!!!!!!!m arrrrggghh

I'll have more 12", 10" and no cut center trunk sub enclosures in stock later this month.
One driver really does a world of difference. As long as the enclosure is built well and the driver is mated to it's volume and the power to the driver is well mated one 10" is more than enough for this car.
If I had to advise for a sub/amp I prefer DVC 2+2ohm for wiring options and a Class D amp
