Default How horrible will this sound

So I have a CR without a radio. I don't really need one as I rarely had my radio on with my old AP1. The only times i did use my radio were for long trips (ex. 10 hours to the dragon, 4 hours to a track, etc.). My original plan was to get portable speakers, but then I came across these single din center channel speakers:

Am I right in assuming that having just this speaker (conected to mp3 player) would not give me anywhere near the range of frequencies I need, even when compared to $30 portable ipod speakers? Obviously I'm not going for great sound quality here...just something to keep me sane on those long drives.

your going to need at least a small amp for that.

that is just a speaker...and your ipod will not have more than a watt to power it out of the stereo jack.

Depending on how much power that speaker requires, you might be able to get away with hardwiring a headphone amp in, and plug the ipod into that.

I think the Clarion has a built in amp.
