Default How to make AP2 Rear Defroster Switch Work in AP1?

A long, long time ago I had an AP2 convertible top installed in my AP1. I have also switched out my original center console to an AP2 2006 center console. The AP2 2006 center console used a different rear defroster switch than the AP1 single-pole single-throw switch. To make it work, I wound up installing a supplementary single-pole single-throw switch elsewhere to allow me to turn the rear defroster on and off.

Ideally, I'd like to figure out how to make the AP2 2006-2009 rear defroster switch (PN 35500-S2A-A01) work vs. using the supplementary switch I wound up installing. Right now that switch is just a "dummy" switch that's not connected to anything. Does anyone know how to make this switch work in my AP1? I have some basic circuit and wiring skills, but am no electronics wizard.

Here's a picture of my center console:

So the ap2 switch has more poles and or throws? Can't you just use an ohmmeter to find a no or nc set of connections (whichever ap1 uses) from the ap2 switch, and wire to that?

I'll take a crack at this:
From comparing an '01 wiring diagram (hardtop defroster switch on the console) to
an '08 wiring diagram (also on the console), in both cases the switch activates a
relay which in turn powers the defroster. The main differences are
1) the '01 specifically says there's a defogger timer circuit in the switch, while the
'08 makes no mention of even if there's a timer much less if it's built into the switch
2) more importantly, the '01 switch supplies +12v to the defroster relay, while in the '08
the switch connects the relay to ground.
It's not inconceivable that you could simply wire the switch so the black ground wire,
normally connected to -12v, is supplied with +12v, but not if there are any circuits
in the switch other than a mechanical switch and an incandescent light bulb
!
More likely you'll need to add a relay to convert the -12v on the switch's signal wire to
+12v to power the defroster relay.
You can see the '08 circuit here.
The '01 connector has the following cavities (L to R):
1 RED dash lights -
2 RED/BLK dash lights +
3 YEL/BLK switch output +
4 YEL BLK fuse 19 (+12v)
5 BLK/YEL ground
