Can someone out there fabricate a stereo cover replacement that works like the black screen that are now popular on aftermarket radios. I was thinking it is just a simple tinted (black) plastic that light can pass through. At night when the radio (stock or otherwise) is on, you would see the display through this cover. If the radio is off, the only thing you should see is a black shiny cover (just like the Kenwood's/Sony's display).

I just thought this would look great and prove pretty functional too.

Just a thought. Anyone care to indulge me?

You could buy some thin plexiglass with a smoke tint. Cut and sand to shape and you are done.
