Default Installation with new Alpine unit...

Hey guys forgive me if I sound really uninformed about some of the questions. I'm pretty new with tinkering with my audio system. I had a cheap Sony head unit (forgot the model number) professionally installed on my S2K to replace the OEM awhile ago. Eventually

I wanted to get another cheap one with Bluetooth so I opted for the Sony MEX-BT2600. This time I decided to do the installation myself. It was simple since the harness installed from the prior Sony unit plugged right into this one.

Now, I decided to get yet another head unit with preferably better sound quality and a USB input in the front. I decided to go Alpine this time and am pretty interested in the Alpine iDA-X305. My question is, should the same Harness used for my Sony unit be just plug and play for the Alpine?

If so, I will just buy it and install it. Another question I have is if I want to retain the stock audio controls on the left of the steering wheel is it easy to install the Modifry DCI Wired Harness? I would even consider the plug and play over it if there is no splicing or any difficult task involved. I just want the whole process to be easy and not have to mess with all the electronics in my dash.

I can't help with the Modifry piece (never used one), but I can tell you that the Sony harness will not plug into the Alpine. But it is very easy to redo the wiring if you are comfortable attempting it yourself

Take it from someone who DID use Modifry. Best purchase ever! So easy to install.

The thing is, do you have the sony harness as an add on module to the stock harness?
The Modifry harness (at least the one I got) was just plug and play off the old harness, and the remote functions work like a dream with the dash controls.

Can't recommend this product enough, as it makes child's play out of the install.

Honestly, I'm not too sure. All I remember was that when I took the first Sony head unit out, I basically unplugged the harness/wiring and put it in the new Sony unit. To be safe, should I just purchase the Alpine harness for the S2000 with the head unit itself?

If I do, do I basically unplug the Sony and replace it with the Alpine one, which in turn plugs into the Alpine head unit itself? I'm afraid it's harder than it sounds.

As far as the Modifry plug and play, I know it plugs into the OEM harness, so how will I plug it into the Alpine?

Basically, all I need is the Modifry plug and play harness and it should be compatible with the Alpine head unit right? I just remove the Sony one?

Sounds right, the Modifry Alpine harness is plug-and-play.

So head unit, Modifry Alpine P&P Harness, and Wired DCI. Correct?

I ran into this too http://modifry.com/products/dci/ida-x001.htm

Says the Alpine ida-x models have issues which sucks cuz that's what I'm looking at.

Yes, but only if you use the dimmer function. If you can live without that, you won't have any issues.

Hmmm.. maybe I'll just get a standard Alpine harness and not use the controls on the left. I got used to it with these Sonys so it's not that big of a deal. Thanks guys.

I'd highly recommend Modifry's DCI and PnP harness.
