Alright well I got the standard Alpine harness for now because it came with the head unit. If I need the controls on the left enough I'll go for it. Gonna test the unit first. ida-x305 looks pretty nice. Gonna play music from my Blackberry Storm through usb.

there was a ida-x305 thread about a month or two ago, which I confirmed that the 305 with dimmer function works perfectly fine with the wired dci.(including all the features the dci provides)

Take it from someone who DID use Modifry. Best purchase ever! So easy to install.

The thing is, do you have the sony harness as an add on module to the stock harness?
The Modifry harness (at least the one I got) was just plug and play off the old harness, and the remote functions work like a dream with the dash controls.

Can't recommend this product enough, as it makes child's play out of the install.
I agree. It took me 10 min. to install my Alpine with the Modifry Plug & Play harness. I really like the dash controls. The old HU in my S2k didn't work with them and I like having the controls at my fingertips.

I have the IDA-X001 with Modifry PnP harness and DCI with no issues. I'm using the blue illumination, fwiw.

Also, despite not being officially supported, my iPhone 3G works perfectly fine with this HU, after I dismiss the warning to enter airplane mode. Music plays, and when a call comes in it fades out, which prompts me to pick up my bluetooth headset.

Adding speed controlled volume is totally worth the Modfry price, still using the dash controls is just cake. Added a Pioneer DEH-P7100BT and a Modfry module last week.

It's a bit more than cake IMO. I can't stand using the head unit controls. I was stuck using them for a couple days after I bumped the DCI wiring while installing a second power outlet.

I can fully control the HU and iPod while driving without looking via the dash controls. Of course, whether that's just a plus or not is a YMMV thing.
