Installed LED Windscreen (Pics)
Brightness on these seems to be VERY good, so I'm not concerned. It's true that getting the colors to meld is difficult when looking close to the LED, but for this application and the techniques I've used, it doesn't seem to be an issue. I'm going to add 2 more LEDs to the string of 2 I currently have running tonight...between the two currently there, the color match between them is a bit off, but I'm hoping it won't make a difference once the whole shebang is st up.
I'm just happy to see a good color purple without using purple LEDs

There isn't much space in there for LEDs, trust me on this one. I'm working with Rick Hesel to redesign his current windscreen...the new design will be more robust and LED-friendly, but I can certainly modify any screens currently out there.
As for brightness, the only way to really solve that issue is to use brighter LEDs, not more of them. As I mentioned before, the LEDs sold by Radio Shack are meant as indicators, not spotlights, so the brightness level is quite low. They also have to be aimed correctly (and modified) to get the correct dispersion pattern within the screen. Distance from the screen, angle at which they hit the screen, etc. all effect brightness and coverage.

I will more than likely be moving two towns over in the next week or so, but I'm hoping the net connection will only be down for a few days. In the meantime, good progress has been made and I'm quite happy with the results so far.
