Default Installed a MTX rt8pt 8" powered Sub

Put one of these in the trunk this weekend.

I'm not an audiophile so forgive my language. It has a good sound, it can get quite loud in the car (I have a hardtop) when turned up, yet outside of the car it isn't that loud. I like that because I'm not trying to draw attention, just get a better overall sound. The install was pretty simple, the hardest part being running the power wire through the firewall. Only needed to buy a wiring kit and its a powered sub so no amp needed. Also, it has a remote switch to allow for gain control from up front. For the price of ~150$ total its pretty killer for those looking to add just a bit to the car's audio system.

I doesn't take up too much space and I have enough room left for the stuff I need to put in the trunk. It's easy to remove too, if I ever need to put my golf clubs in or something. I plan on making a cover to make it look a little cleaner at some point in the future, but its the inside of my trunk an it's not a show car, so...

Good to hear. I'm like you - I want more bass to fill out the sound, but don't want to draw attention. I have been considering in-cabin subwoofers but not trunk subwoofers for this reason - I was worried that the sound would be so muffled that I'd have to turn it up higher and share my musical tastes with everyone around me How much trunk space did you have to give up?

That looks like a really nice unit for 150! Ive had numerous systems in all of my cars and a ported box with a strong woofer is all anyone needs. You already have a plus with having a hardtop, sealing the cabin for better resonance. IMO you will want something a little more trunk space conscious, and powerful after a while. Not trying to bash your setup, I personally always appreciate new ideas. Tell me what you think about this:

$100 shipped custom ported box from zenclosures.com with EXCELLENT customer service (built it to specs of my sub)

$180 for a brand new Sundown Audio SA-8. 8" sub 500RMS this thing is a TANK. The magnet is bigger than the cone lol!

$150 Alpine 1000w MRP-M1000 amp

This setup is equally as crisp and loud as the 12" Alpine Type R 600RMS I used to have, powered by 1000watts.

Current setup = 40 lbs Old setup = 110lbs. This is a sports car after all, lets not add weight right!

Oh wow! That fits in there perfectly! The first pic made it look huge. That will work! Nice job
