Installed my stereo last night
I'm so happy to have a little upgrade to my audio. Here are the components I installed.
Head Unit
Alpine CDA-9884 w/iPod Cable
Speakers
6.5" Alpines in the front
5.25" Alpines in the rear
Amp
Kicker ZX400.1
Subwoofer
10" Kicker CompVT
Wiring
Stinger RCAs
Miscellaneous Stinger fuse holder, connectors and wire ends
Generic 4AWG Power Cable
Because I'm impatient (and don't have a garage where I can cut wood at home) I went out and bought a generic 10" carpeted enclosure at WalMart on the way home. It's made by Scosche and it's a little undersized (by about .25 cubic feet from ideal for this sub) but it'll do the trick till I can get over to my buddy's house and cut up some MDF to make a tool-well enclosure. Amp will likely end up mounted on the front of the trunk panel that covers the soft top motor for ventilation. For now the amp is mounted on the box and the whole setup sits nicely in the tool well, leaving me a decent amount of space in the trunk.
Overall I'm quite pleased with the setup, but I am looking forward to getting the sub in an appropriately-sized box and tuning the system properly. Hard to tune though since the interior space changes from top up to top down frequently. I've got to look at little more at the deck to determine if I can store a couple of custom audio profiles like I used to with my old JVC. I loved that old deck with it's sexy brushed aluminum face
The Alpine rears REALLY add a lot to the interior fill. The directional tweeters mounted in the center are nice and seem to work best when aimed toward the middle of the vehicle.
I forgot how nice it is to have decent sound in a vehicle! I've grown so accustomed to driving by the sound of the engine though, that my first drive with music playing resulted in me taking off pretty badly from a few traffic lights.
There, I'm one of you audio-heads again
Now gimme a badge

I'm impulsive, I flew back to town on Sunday night around 11, Monday morning I went shopping for all the components then went out for New Years Eve, then on Tuesday afternoon I picked up a few more bits and pieces and did the install last night.
No time for the DCI to arrive yet so I used a $12 wiring harness from the local automotive store. One of my credit cards has expired and they keep sending replacements to my old address across the country, we're attempting delivery #3 now. I'm waiting for the payment of my other credit card to go through so I can pay Modifry. I suspect he won't take an IOU

Yeah the OEM does suck but it didn't bother me till I get bit by the audio bug again last week. After being really into car audio with my past 4 vehicles I realized it was because I needed something to get excited about in those cars. With the S I found that in the top down/engine screaming!
