Rubber window gasket is weatherstripping. For some reason I couldn't think of term "weatherstrip" at the time. Here is a picture of the one I used.

FWIW... That weatherstrip is great for fixing amp rack rattle when you don't have carpeted panels (ie fiberglass or painted wood).

That is exactly what I was talking about.....just a miscommunication in terminology. I am a contractor now, and that is weatherstripping, not window gasket material. It acts as a gasket, but is not called that in the industry ( ). Window gasket is a silicone based material that you use when setting a fixed pane of glass into a wall. It goes between the window stop and the pane itself. Sort of similar in design, but its flat instead of a 90* tubular like the weatherstripping.

Just clearing it up...

John

excellent. thanks for the clarification there, i am familiar with this stripping, actually i may already have some at home. I will give it a go and see how it is, after that i'll have to stop being a tight prick and shell out for a custom shelf!

If you do the weatherstripping, be sure to shell out the extra couple dollars for the rubber-based D-shaped type I mentioned above and not the cheaper foam based type. Besides having much longer life expectancy, the rubber-based version will be much easier to get the pieces back in place due to being much thinner when compressed.

Foam based = BAD. Rubber / Neoprene = GOOD

hey, you guys think this would work on a CF trunk? My CF trunk doesnt have any type of weatherstripping or those plastic plugs to adjust the trunk, and it rattles against the car sometimes. would it work if to help prevent the trunk rattle at all?

Absolutely. That was my exact point when I mentioned it above. I put together a painted amp rack (flat panel & spare tire combo) that rattled like a MoFo at first. I used about 18' of the strip above on every point that touched, either on the MDF or on the trunk metal. I'll post a few pics shortly.

Well looks like the pic's aren't going to happen. My wife cleared some room on the camera for Halloween dog pictures (taking out the 2nd half of my install progress). Oh well, I'll share this one instead. :-)
