Installing 3 way speakers
A buddy of mine is selling me his FOCAL K3ps and I am wondering if the Mid bass speakers would be okay to put in the roll hoops and the 6.5 and tweeter in the door?
Also is 575 a good price for these?

Placing speakers behind you is always a bad idea unless omnidirectional. I generally consider subwoofers crossed 63hz and bellow with at least 12db/octave slope omnidirectional. The mid should go in the kickpanel, dash or pillar. With sets like this (same size mid and midbass) the only thing you gain is soundstaging if the mid is installed in a proper place. Otherwise you may want at least a 8" 4" 1" 3 way to get better tonality and dynamics.
Focal is one of the many overpriced car audio brands out there. They pulled out of the DIY market because their products were very inferior to the competition. The utopia 6.5s were going for $150 a pop and could easily be decimated by < $100 speakers.

The location is personal preference if you go 3 way. I for one, do not want to impede the pedal operation in this car as it is a driver's car. I wouldn't do kicks. The next location is the pillar for the mid and I do like this one. Since our pillars are wide to get extra rigidity you can hide speakers 4" wide or less and not get in the way of the windshield. I recommend this location for small mids in the S2k. The benefits are numerous, less deflection of your legs since the midrange is above your limbs, and a higher soundstage.
The 2way however offers just as much output and great tonality. The frequency response will vary a bit as you move your legs around and your passenger moves but it's generally very good payoff given how easy it is to drop a 6.5" in the doors. Nothing wrong with a 2 Way, it's bang for the buck in this car.
